The Holy year is in 2010 because 25 is a sunday that year. In Europe, the pilgrimage to Santiago is very popular. Phsew!! Over 700 000 pilgrim beds were slept in last year alone! 114 000 pilgrims earned the Compostela certificate. This year numbers are up on the one route by 70% and 30 -40% on some of the other routes. Next year is a Holy or Jubilee Year and the numbers will be astronomical! In the last Holy year - 2004 - almost 180 000 pilgrims earned the Compostela. The pilgrimage trails to Santiago (all 15+ in Spain) are thriving!!
