Lent for Children 2011

NOTE for 2012: Updated Lent for Children Daily Display for 2012

2013 Supplement for Daily Display

Last year I shared a treasure from 1951, Lent for Children: A Thought a Day. I reformatted it so you could print and share with your children.

I also created what I called a “Daily Display” which had the page for the day next to artwork and excerpts from the day’s Gospel. One of our favorite liturgical tools is an easel binder (or this one which is more expensive, but more durable and expandable) which we use daily at the table to highlight different thoughts for the liturgical seasons or feasts.

I have updated the Daily Display for 2011, and it’s available in one .pdf (large) file. My 7 year old son really likes following calendars, so this is created for this year’s Lent. I don’t have a version without the dates.

Although I have a color printer, I am taking this to be printed to save on toner. Note: If you are taking this to the printer, you might need to reduce the color a bit (the tech suggested 85%). It seems the pictures are darker, and need to be brightened up if being printed on the copier.

  2. Dear Jennifer,
I just came across your blog and what a blessing! This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Thank you so much and God bless you!
I see you might be a local. I’m in Linden, VA.
I look forward to more of your Lenten posts.

  3. Jenn, I just got back from the printers and the book is beautiful! Which easel binder do you recommend? Do you keep the book in the binder the whole year round in addition to other seasonal pages? or do you replace them for each season and store the pages elsewhere?

    • I would go for the one with the ring binder, the Avery one, if you can afford it. I have snatched up discontinued easels, but the plastic edge that keeps them together is tearing, so they will need to be replaced. The ring binder will last longer. I have several binders, but do reuse some…or like the Avery, add more pages so that it can be used through the year, or at least Lent and Easter.

  4. Jennifer,

I sent it to Staples to have them print it for me, and they said that because it has your copyright on it, they can’t print it without written permission from you!

  5. Thank you so much Jennifer. And thanks for this great resource too. We all really enjoyed it last year, and are looking forward to using it again.

  7. I just found this and look forward to using with my family. Do you by chance have a file that doesn’t have the dates on it? I wanted to print on cardstock to use every year and having the dates on it limits it to one year. Thanks!

    • Last year’s version which is in many different files doesn’t have the dates. I realized as I printed mine that I will have to do this again, but right now my son wants to see the dates and so I catered to that wish. Next year I will make one without the dates, and just replace the key solemnities and Sundays subsequent years. Sorry!

  8. Jennifer, thank you for updating this wonderful resource. We used it during Lent last year, and it was such a blessing! Looking forward to using it this year!

  10. Jennifer, when I download the file it is still showing a copyright. Fedex Office and Office Depot have both told me they can’t print if it says copyright, so I had figured I’d have to print at home. But then I saw your comment. Is it the same link? Thank you for sharing, it is so beautiful!

  11. Jennifer, I really appreciate it! But now it looks like the pages are off of the pictures, maybe because of the way you changed the wording on the first page? I really feel bad that changing that is causing you more work. I printed the first few pages, but I think I am going to send the rest to the printer, or I’ll run out of color. Thanks again.

  12. Thanks so much for posting this wonderful resource! I found it just before Lent, printed it 2-sided at home and took it to Staples to be bound. I keep it in a book holder on the kitchen table. My 12yo & I were looking for a simple prayer for her to offer each day. This was perfect. I love having the daily Gospel reading and brief reflection. I’ve noticed my dh and highschooler reading it, too! In fact, my 16yo commented one day, “Yikes, I’ve read that by accident three times already today!” Love it!!
