The Lord Taketh Away

I’m feeling a bit like Job this week. After much trepidation and emotion regarding my son’s oral challenge to wheat, he seemed to pass it. That was March 2nd. He complained of an itchy mouth, but it never went further than that, so we slowly were adding wheat in various ways. It wasn’t a lot…except perhaps a bowl of spaghetti.

But then he had a systemic reaction to the wheat. It was a delayed reaction, but an acute reaction. The doctor verified on Tuesday, and we’re back off wheat. After all these years of not eating wheat to avoid reactions, this was emotionally hard to see him suffer the reaction but also to have to retreat back to avoidance.

We’re a bit disappointed. His First Communion will probably have to receive the Precious Blood. And it is a blessing we do have that option.

Thursday we’re doing a dairy challenge, and next month an egg challenge. Both of these were less reactive to him in the past, so there’s higher chance of him passing.

Prayers would be appreciated for the roller coaster ride.

    Praying for your son, Jennifer!

  3. Oh no! Have you ever heard of the GAPS diet? Over the past week, “Reversing Food Allergies” has been popping up in all of my newsfeeds. Perhaps it would help: http://realfoodmedia.com/foodallergies/?AFFID=55353

  4. Sorry, Jenn. I’ve never had to deal with allergies in my kids. Remembering the youngest one’s allergy to penicillin is hard enough as it only comes up when she’s sick. I can’t imagine his and your disappointment.

Praying, Jenn! And hoping for success.

  6. Dear Jenn,
We continue to pray for you. We hope, he will overcome his allergy.

  7. I have been praying for you this week Jennifer. All will be well.
